RELATED: Five Nights At Freddy’s: Security Breach – How To Get Every Ending
The Five Nights at Freddy’s fanbase is well aware of these elements, such as the still-unnamed “crying child” or “bite victim” and what their significance is to the overall story is, or what’s in the infamous locked chest. These are bits of the lore that really need to be resolved after years of speculation.
7 Who Is The FNAF 3 Night Guard?
As of now, the identity of the FNAF 3 player character is currently unknown. Nothing is known about their name, physical appearance, or gender, and their fate after the end of the game is also unknown. There is speculation that they are Michael Afton, the son of William Afton, otherwise known as Purple Guy, and the man trapped inside the Springtrap animatronic.
This has never been confirmed, however, though it could fit as William did say he was going to “find” his father at the end of Sister Location. This could merely be set up for FNAF: Pizzeria Simulator, however.
6 What’s In The Box?
The infamous locked chest that appeared at the end of FNAF 4 has been a focal point of fan speculation since the game was released in 2015. The box itself has had numerous FNAF related appearances since then, though none of these have provided any more insight as to what the deal is with it. The box even appeared in the Charlie-centered novel series, which is definitively noncanonical to the game series.

This muddies the waters even further. Scott Cawthon has also stated that his idea of what’s in the box has changed over time, which undoubtedly contributes to the mystery. Nonetheless, fans have been eagerly awaiting the reveal of what exactly is in the box, however, with Cawthon’s retirement from the series it seems unlikely that an answer will be given anytime soon.
5 The Identity Of The Bite Victim/Crying Child
Not only is it still unclear whether the crying child is the player character in FNAF 4 (some have theorized that it is Michael Afton), their specific identity is currently unknown. Their exact fate after being bitten at the end of the game is also currently known, leaving some to speculate that the child later became Golden Freddy (this is largely unsupported by the fandom) or that they are the ghost haunting the FNAF Survival Logbook (speaking to his brother Michael).
The line “I will put you back together” also has yet to be explained in FNAF media. Was the child rebuilt as a robot? Did they die as a result of the bite? These are questions that have yet to be answered.
4 What Are The Shadow Animatronics?
The Shadow Animatronics from FNAF 2 and onward are still a complete mystery to even longtime fans of the series. Currently, there are six shadow animatronics but only two have appeared in more than one game in the series. These animatronics, Shadow Freddy and RWQFSFASXC (also known as Shadow Bonnie) are the most well-known of the shadow animatronics and still aren’t well understood by the fan community.

This includes why they appear, why Shadow Bonnie in particular crashes the game immediately when spawned, and why Shadow Freddy on the other hand is mysteriously passive towards the player.
3 There’s A Mrs. Afton?
As is well known, William Afton, or Purple Guy, is the primary antagonist of the FNAF franchise. Not only is Mr. Afton himself extremely important to the series’ lore, but so are his kids. His son, Michael, for example, is one of the main protagonists of the series and appears in multiple games.
It stands to reason then that William would have a wife, however, this wife is rarely ever mentioned in the series and is said to have possibly died or left the Afton family. Who this woman was and what role she played has been theorized by fans for years but due to the few details about her, they have never gained that much traction, though she has been speculated to have died and later possessed the Ballora animatronic. This has yet to be officially confirmed, however.
2 What’s The Deal With Gregory?
Gregory is kind of an enigma in FNAF: Security Breach. Not only is his presence in the Pizzaplex interesting in that Freddy has no record of him, but he also seems to not have parents or family to help him throughout his time there. He’s even observed in one of the endings to be sleeping alone in an alley under a cardboard box and newspaper. It is heavily implied that he was kidnaped by Vanny and brought to the Pizzaplex, although he also seems aware of this as well.

What exactly is so important or special about Gregory that led him to end up in these circumstances? Some have theorized that he is a robot-like Charlotte from the novel series or that he is a “rebuilt” version of the Crying Child from FNAF 4. Neither of these theories is confirmed (let alone commonly accepted by the fans), however, it seems impossible to deny the boy’s significance to the story.
1 The Infamous Bite Of 87
The only things the fans have in the way of explaining what the Bite of 87 is are unofficial theories. As it stands, there is neither concrete information on the bite victim’s identity nor the animatronic which did the biting.
The one thing that is known is that this event was the catalyst for the animatronics being prevented from wandering around freely during the daytime due to something obviously being wrong with them (that being possessed by dead children). The prevailing theory is that the bite victim is Jeremy Fitzgerald, the FNAF 2 player character and that either Foxy or Mangle did the biting. This, however, is merely fan speculation and not canonical fact.
Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach is available now on PC, PS4, and PS5.
