While there is still Evolution and Crown Jewel to come between now and then, both shows are distinctly different from the traditional WWE PPV events, and Survivor Series is the next time the full WWE roster will all be under one roof for a show.

The show is the company’s second longest running event after WrestleMania, and often starts several of the company’s biggest storylines heading into their marquee event in April.

This year’s Survivor Series has all the potential to be one of the greatest of all time, with several former superstars currently being active in the company, and several possible angles the company could choose to pursue at the event.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at five matches that could main-event this year’s Survivor Series.

#5 Brock Lesnar and The Authors of Pain Vs The Shield Vs Drew McIntyre, Braun Strowman, and Dolph Ziggler

The WWE’s continued emphasis on teams and stables in recent months has led many fans to believe that the company intends on giving us some sort of big stable warfare style match-up at this year’s Survivor Series.

If that does turn out to be the case, then you can get bet your bottom dollar that The Shield will be involved in the match.

The current feud between The Shield and The Dogs of War looks set to continue despite The Shield coming out on top in their match at Super Show-Down, and the next chapter in that feud will take place at WWE Crown Jewel when Roman Reigns defends his Universal title against Braun Strowman and Brock Lesnar.

As things stand, both Braun Strowman and Roman Reigns have some back-up for that match, and despite Brock Lesnar’s unrivalled physical presence, not even he can take on six men. It’s very likely that Lesnar will seek some assistance of his own to level the playing field at Survivor Series and taking a quick look at the current Raw roster, The Authors of Pain are definitely the best candidates.

The WWE could even make this match more exciting by having not only the Universal title on the line in the match but also the tag-team championship.

#4 Dean Ambrose Vs Roman Reigns Vs Seth Rollins

Let’s face it, this match is going to be happening at one point or another. The WWE universe has been anticipating a Dean Ambrose heel-turn ever since he made his return on Raw just before SummerSlam, and recent storylines have only added fuel to that fire.

Whether it is Ambrose, Rollins, or Reigns who turns on their team-mates, The Shield will definitely be breaking up before WrestleMania rolls around.

While the showcase of the immortals would be the best stage for such an epic encounter between these three men, rumours suggest that The Rock may be returning for next year’s big show, and if that is the case, then Roman Reigns is his most likely opponent.

In those circumstances, a Shield break-up may come a lot earlier than we think, and the three men could end up squaring off with one another as early as Survivor Series.

Outside of the Royal Rumble, the rest of the shows between now and WrestleMania are considered B shows, and fans are desperate to see these three men go one on one on the biggest stage possible.

If the WWE does decide to go ahead with Roman Reigns Vs The Rock, then don’t be surprised to see these three men facing off at Survivor Series.

#3 Team WWE Vs Team NXT

One idea that has been batted around the internet over the last few weeks is for the WWE to stage an NXT invasion angle for this year’s Survivor Series.

Given that NXT is holding their annual WarGames event just 24 hours before Survivor Series, it seems unlikely that the WWE would expect the performers to wrestle on two big events within a day of one another, but stranger things have happened in the WWE.

NXT is full to the brim with talent right now, and a match between the stars of tomorrow and the WWE’s elite main-eventers could provide Survivor Series with one of its greatest matches ever.

#2 Team Angle Vs Team Corbin

Battles over authority are nothing new when it comes to Survivor Series, and it looks as though the latest instalment in that tradition could see Kurt Angle lead a team against Baron Corbin for control over Raw at Survivor Series.

Rumours are suggesting that Angle’s hiatus as Raw GM is so that he can prepare for a return to the ring, and if that is the case, then a big team-match against Baron Corbin at Survivor Series would be a nice way to get him back in the ring.

A one-on-one match between Angle and Corbin is also likely, but it would be seen as slightly underwhelming given the fact that Corbin has zero mom as a singles performer at the moment.

This match could see all of the main-event heels and faces from Raw come to blows in one huge match-up. Corbin could recruit Strowman, Ziggler and McIntyre to his team, while Angle could call on The Shield to help him regain control of Monday nights.

#1 The Undertaker Vs Shawn Michaels

Despite The Undertaker’s match with Triple H at Super Show-Down not receiving the warmest of receptions from critics, the match still helped draw a massive audience in Australia and proved that some of the old guards still have massive appeal to the WWE Universe.

While it remains unclear how much of a success the show was, the live attendance has no doubt made the company a ton of money, and the WWE will want to make sure that both men are involved in and around the main event scene at Survivor Series.

Saturday’s event also all but confirmed that Shawn Michaels will be lacing his boots up for a match once again, and if that is the case, then it seems unlikely that it will just be a one and done deal for the heartbreak kid.

The big money match with Michaels is against the man who retired him, The Undertaker. The two men will probably meet as part of a tag match at Crown Jewel and that, in turn, will probably set up a match-up between the two men at Survivor Series.

Whether this will be the final time the two men meet remains to be seen. Rumours of The Undertaker’s retirement suggest that Michaels could be the man to finally lay the deadman to rest at WrestleMania, bringing one of the biggest rivalries in WWE history full-circle on the biggest stage of them all.
